In most adults, the cervical spine degenerates as they age, eventually resulting in loss of motion, and other far-reaching health effects. Along with spinal degeneration normally comes an acceleration of the natural aging process, due to the resulting change in blood and nerve flow to the involved tissues and organs in the head and neck. One way to slow this degeneration in the cervical spine is with gentle traction. The Pettibon cervical traction unit, above, is well suited for such a task.

Cervical degenerative disc disease of the spine is a prevalent condition in the population. Studies have shown that after age 40, almost 60% of the population has radiographic evidence of cervical spine degeneration and by age 65, 95% of men and 70% of women will have some sort of degenerative change on x-ray.(Spine-Health.com) Fortunately, many of these changes seen on x-ray can be considered a general aging phenomenon and not a disease process, as most people with degenerative changes on an imaging study do not have any pain or other symptoms. However, in some patients, as the disc degenerates it can result in a general arthritis of the bony elements of the cervical spine or a herniation of the disc soft tissues. One of the clinical signs of disc degeneration is neck and radiating type of arm pain (pain that radiates from the neck down the arm and possibly into the hand and fingers). In addition to neck pain and/or arm pain, symptoms may include numbness, tingling or weakness, and again these symptoms may radiate into the arm.
The early days of spinal therapy......................

There are many causes of disc degeneration:
- Dehydration of the disc
- Vertebral (facet) joint arthritis
- Breakdown of the cartilage framework.
With any type of persistent neck pain symptoms, you should consult your doctor first to rule out more serious conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, meningitis, bone infection, and tumors, and other pathologic processes.
Use the simple, but ingeniously-designed Pettibon home traction unit to gently stretch the sensitive tissues of the cervical spine. Demo Picture Use your legs to lower your body to a comfortable level of stretch. Feel the tension disappear as your spinal vertebrae are realigned along their most natural position, and healthful blood and oxygen is drawn back into the spinal discs between the bones. Can be hooked to any door, or to a solid higher object.
Order the "regular" size, if you have jaw problems, or prefer to rest the anchor pad on your forehead, as opposed to the under-jaw method (see demo). Order the "thick" model if you prefer to place the anchor pad under your jaw. This is the method I prefer, and
is quite comfortable, even when resting my entire body weight on the pad.
"By purchasing, I am affirming I have a normal health history, and that I have received an okay from my doctor as to my ability to safely perform traction on my neck."
